100 BBMP schools to get CCTVs
It has released Rs 13 crore to install CCTVs in 100 BBMP schools. "Every school has to adhere to the guidelines. They have been approved by the high court and we cannot go back, but only can strengthen them. More than one crore children are studying in 74,954 private and government schools in the state,'' additional chief secretary and chairman of the panel on child safety V Umesh said. Besides, the government has asked all schools to display their license number — pertaining to permission for running the institution — prominently on the campus, failing which severe action would be initiated against the managements. At present, authorities are finding it difficult to fix responsibility on schools in case of sexual assaults on children as many of them are functioning illegally or on a permission given for other purpose — like running English-medium classes while having permission only to run Kannada-medium classes.
